Things that I’m dreaming about (and hopefully saving up for!)
A Wee Motorhome or Camper Trailer
I still remember the first motorhome I ever saw. I was in preschool and some neighbours who had moved away came back to visit. I didn’t remember them at all, but their motorhome made a HUGE impression on me. It had BUNK BEDS and there were kids hanging out of all of them. It was a HOUSE ON WHEELS. I told my mom when I grew up I was going to buy her a motorhome. Because naturally, once one knows about the existence of motorhomes, one must clearly be desirous of one.
Well, it’s almost 4 decades later and I still want one. However, I don’t feel the need for a giant one like our former neighbours had. I want something little. Either a tiny class C (less than 21′ and preferably 1980s or earlier for the vibes) or a small camper trailer. I’ve currently got my eye on an A-Liner Classic for the second category. Lots of windows. Then there’s always the Alto r1723, my absolute dream trailer.
Canon EOS with Animal Eye AF
If you’ve been hanging around Camp Like Noodle for any time at all, you know that there’s nothing I hate more than a perfect picture of my kids being spoiled by my camera deciding it should focus on the freaking ferns behind them. I had some film business to attend to at the local store where I bought my Canon EOS Rebel, so I asked if they could show me around the Canon cameras that will actually focus on my kids’ faces. Turns out it’s basically all of them now, and they’re not even super expensive! I got to track the guy with the camera as he moved around, to see how well it focuses. Amazing. Maybe something for my next tax return (this most recent one bought Yunnie, my electric wheelchair.)
An Electric Motor for my Kayak
So, I recently learned that converting kayaks to being motorized is a thing??? I had completely given up on ever using my kayak again, and had actually been making plans to rehome it. But, just like with camping and hiking, it turns out that there’s a way to make it accessible, it’s just going to cost me more *cries.* I used to be a super strong rower, but if I did that kind of cardio now it’d toss me into a crash faster than I could get out of the kayak. Hilariously, at least according to what I’ve been able to find online, the ONLY people who are doing this are fishers. Every reddit post, blog entry, etc, it’s all people talking about how great these electric motors are and that they’re so quiet they don’t even scare the fish away. We KNOW that if this product had been marketed as a disability accommodation it would have been crazy expensive, so thank you, fisherpeople of the world, for your service.
Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Rack OR Yakima Showdown Kayak/SUP Rack
Aside from not being able to paddle anymore, the next biggest barrier to my getting back into kayaking was the roof rack situation. I have the adorable (and extremely cheap) foam block style of rack, which is to say it’s not a proper rack at all. But they only cost like $40, soooo XD However, I’m not supposed to reach over my head anymore. And Feat of Strength + Over My Head is an especially bad combo. These racks actually drop down the side of your vehicle for loading and unloading. The Thule one in particular is designed to then take half the weight off of your hands. Amazing. It IS, however, about $200 more expensive than the Yakima, which would not only wipe out my dividend, but I’d have to pay some actual money towards it. Maybe it’ll go on sale XD
Suspenz EZ Stow Stern Cart OR Suspenz Stowable Kayak Airless Cart
This little rig can be attached to one end of your kayak while you hold the other and tow it to the water. THEN, it can be disassembled and stored inside your kayak while you paddle (or cruise) around. Simply amazing.
Hest Dog Bed in Size Small
I already have a Hest camping mattress and a Hest seat cushion for Yunnie, so now of course I want one of Leeloo and Sieh. This would fit perfectly in Yunnie’s trailer.
